In Paolo e Francesca, from 1887, the reference to the theatrical drama of the second Romanticism is clear. The two bodies, as if they had been pierced, in a single blow, by the same sword, lie at the foot of a bed that refers to the erotic liaison. The two loving brother-in-law have not been able, as appears in the Divine Comedy, to subdue the drive and the feeling to reason.
